Federal Grants

Grants are financial aid awards that never have to be repaid. These types of funds are usually given to students who demonstrate financial need based on the results of their Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Some grants are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis so make sure you file early.

Pell Grant

This grant is awarded on the basis of financial need, as determined by the student’s FAFSA. Award amounts are determined by your expected family contribution (EFC) and range from $626 to $5,775. Award amounts may also be pro-rated based upon your enrollment.

  • A completed FAFSA is required to apply for these funds.
  • Undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree may be eligible for Pell Grant funds. Students may receive Pell Grant funds for up to the equivalent of six (6) academic years.
  • Graduate and Ph.D. students, as well as students pursuing their second bachelor’s degree, are not eligible for these funds.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

This grant is also awarded based on financial need, as determined by the student’s FAFSA. Award amounts vary based on need and availability of funds.

  • A completed FAFSA is required to be considered for these funds.
  • Awarded only to Pell Grant-eligible dependent undergraduates who are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree and have an Expected Family Contribution of zero ($0)
  • This award is not guaranteed from year to year. A student may receive it one year, but not the next depending on their EFC as determined by FAFSA.
